Ingeborg Bachmann's Todesarten project reverses the gender of Brecht's quote and sets out to anatomize the many ways in which women in particular are driven to death in male-dominated culture:
"The day will come, when women will have golden eyes, they will have golden hair. And there will come a day when everyone, men and women, will rediscover the poetry of their gender. This day will come, when we will be free of everything, free of this filth, this misery. And we will be free, freer than under any freedom we have ever yet imagined."
